Vikas Gowda clinches gold in Kingston meet

US-based discus thrower, Vikas Gowda, representing India, clinched gold in the World Challenge Meeting at Kingston on Sunday with a throw of 61.38 metres. He pushed Jason Morgan and Fedrick Dacres (both Jamaica), with throws of 60.96 and 59.30 metres, to second and third spots respectively. In 100m sprint, Tyson Gay of the US, clocked 9.86 to secure top spot.

Paul, Tejas and Arun win at Max Kart Open
Hyderabad: The JK Tyre-Meco Motorsports Rotax Max Kart Open 2013 came to a thrilling end with the conclusion of Round 2 Sunday at The Kart Centre. While Paul Francis (Meco Racing), Tejas Ram (Meco Racing) and Arjun Khaire (Meco Racing) took home the Rookie titles in the Micro Max, Junior Max and Senior Max categories respectively; Yash Aradhya (Meco Racing), Krishnaraj Mahadik (Mohite's Racing) and Nayan Chatterjee (Rayo Racing) were winners in the Open class.

Jr Weightlifting: Bronze for Mirabai
New Delhi: India opened their medal account in the Junior World Weightlifting Championships with Saikhom Mirabai Chanu bagging three bronze in the women’s 48kg category on day one of the competition in Lima, Peru on Sunday. Mirabai won a bronze each in snatch (72kg) and clean and jerk (93kg) and total lift (165kg). In men's 56kg, Apurba Chetia missed out on medals by a whisker as he finished fourth in each of snatch (102kg), clean and jerk (127kg) and total lift (229kg).

India advance in Commonwealth TT
New Delhi: It was a good beginning for India paddlers at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships, as both the women's and men's team advanced to second round. The women first beat Sri Lanka 3-0 and then Canada with a same margin, while the men defeated Australia and South Africa.
