For some volunteers, HT Paathshala has offered a welcome break from the mundane and a rewarding way of feeling enriched by connecting productively with people. .

Manisha Verma

“When I saw an ad in the paper about HT Paathshala, it struck me as a good way to spend some quality time with myself away from work and the daily chores. Above all, I thought it would be a way to give back to society and get inner peace.

I went to Shine Woman Home on a weekend and the supervisor took me around and introduced me to the children. It was a pleasant environment full of smiling children busy with various types of art like making paper flower art designs. I was later told that different children had different learning needs and were accordingly taught different activities. Not knowing where to begin, I started with inspirational storytelling, i.e., telling the children motivational stories about some legendary personalities from whom they could draw life lessons. This got them excited to learn more. I then taught them General Knowledge and Self Defense and we also learnt Life Skills with some fun activities.

My experience at Shine Woman Home gave me a sense of accomplishment that nothing can beat. At the same time, I am grateful for this opportunity to interact with these young girls bursting with energy and eagerness to learn.”
