Pakistan’s interior minister Rehman Malik not only claimed on Monday that India was funding the Taliban fighters who were wreaking havoc in Pakistan, but also added he was ready to confront the Indian government with the evidence.

“I’m convinced about it,” he told a television news channel. “There are elements which do not want Pakistan to be stable.” Asked if India was among them he said, “Of course.”

While no such case has been officially documented, there have also been reports in Pakistan press of slain Taliban militants being found not circumcised. He reiterated India was also instigating Pakistan’s troubles in Balochistan. A number of Pakistani commentators agreed with Malik. “There are more Indians in Afghanistan than foreigners from any other country,” said Fozia Saeed, well-known academic. “It makes me feel there may be more than meets the eye.”

While no such case has been officially documented, there have also been reports in Pakistan press of slain Taliban militants being found not circumcised.

“All this is completely groundless and baseless,” said a foreign ministry official.
