The Fatehgarh Sahib police on Thursday claimed to have seized 26-kg heroin worth Rs 130 crore in the international market from an NRI's house in Zirakpur.
Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Hardial Singh Mann said the district police had recently arrested an international drug smuggler, NRI Anup Singh Kahlon of Jandu Singha village of Jalandhar district and his accomplice Kulwinder Singh of Nawa Shahar Badla village of SAS Nagar district. The suspects are in police custody till Friday.
The SSP said that on the basis of the leads provided by the suspects during interrogation, the police seized 26-kg heroin from Kahlon's house in Zirakpur on Thursday. He said police had succeeded in breaking the Kahlon's drug supply chain in Canada, US and other countries.
The SSP said a team of district police led by Fatehgarh Sahib SHO Devinder Attri on March 3 arrested Kahlon and his accomplice with 540-gram heroin, two fake driving licenses and Rs 13.86 lakh in cash.
As per the SSP, Kahlon had been living in Canada with his family since 1995 and was a Canadian citizen. Initially, he worked as a truck driver and gradually started smuggling drugs through his network in some European countries and the US. Kahlon was a frequent visitor to India, apparently to look after his drug business, he said.
The SSP said Kulwinder Singh was the caretaker of Kahlon's house in Zirakpur. Of the 26-kg haul, 16-kg was seized from inside the house, while 10-kg was recovered from a car parked in the house. The SSP said further investigations are on.
The SSP said the DGP had recommended out of turn promotion of nine cops, who were involved in the investigation of this case.
