While the real estate meltdown prevails in much of Punjab, it's a boom time for the Badal home turf, thanks to the pumping of government grants and projects into the ruling family's political constituencies.

Reflecting this trend, the latest official data on realty revenue collections shows that Bathinda, Fazilka and Muktsar have posted a significant jump in revenue inflow from the sale of stamp papers and registration of property in these three districts during the first three quarters (April-December) of the current financial year as compared to the figures of corresponding period in 2012.

While Harsimrat Kaur Badal represents Bathinda in the Lok Sabha, the assembly seats of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal (Lambi) and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal (Jalalabad) fall in Muktsar and Fazilka districts, respectively.
