On the call given by the United Forum of Bank Unions comprising nine trade unions, all employees of private and public sector banks observed a strike demanding wage revision.

The strike almost completely paralysed the banking operations and transactions worth crores remained pending.

A massive rally was held in front of the State Bank of Patiala head office here, which was addressed by SK Gautam, Joint Secretary of the All India Bank Employees Association apart from Parmod Sharma and Vinod Sharma, who were representing the bank officers' association.

The speakers said that the last wage settlement in the banking sector expired in October 2012, and hence a revised settlement from November 2012 was due. But for the last one year, the discussions have been very tardy and no decision has been taken so far.

The protesters also demanded that the people's money should not be allowed to be looted by big corporates in the name of banking reforms.

Meanwhile, citizens faced the heat of the strike, particularly the students who had to deposit fee in banks as many competitive examinations.
