Ten lakh bank employees and officers working in all public sector banks and in old-generation private banks, foreign banks, co-operative banks and regional rural banks will join the two-day nationwide strike on February 20-21.
Various banking associations would join the strike under the United Forum of Bank Unions' banner.
Parmod Sharma, general secretary, Associate Bank Officers' Association, State Bank of Patiala, and general secretary, All India Bank Officers' Confederation, Punjab unit, said here on Friday that the banks would observe strike on February 20 and 21 against the central government's policies.
The employees would protest to support their 10-point charter of demands of the Central Trade Unions and other demands, including controlling alarming price rise, stopping anti-labour policies and outsourcing, providing early wage revision and settling pending issues such as compassionate appointment scheme.
Sharma said wage revision in the banking industry was due with effect from November 2012, but the government was delaying it and no talks had taken place till date.
