With locals finding it difficult to procure birth and death certificates, the municipal corporation will computerise the registration of certificates in order to ease out the process.

From now on computerised birth and death certificates will be issued to locals instead of the manual ones.

Mayor Amarinder Bajaj on Sunday said they were late in making the process computerised as digitalisation of certificates was already being done in other corporations.

Bajaj said not only the locals but the officials concerned also faced a problem in maintaining the registration of records and issuing manual certificates.

"The traditional method was time consuming and it took a lot of time for people to get the certificate. Earlier, it took a month and even more to issue certificates but with computerisation it will be easy for the civic authority to issue these within days of registration," he said.

Bajaj said the computerised certificates would also limit the chances of spelling and other errors. "We have already invited outsourcing agencies to approach us for the process," he added.
