Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday voiced his support for setting up the judicial and administrative complexes close to each other.

Responding to the demands of lawyers at a function organised by the District Bar Association of Patiala, Amarinder pointed out that the lawyers were facing difficulties because of the judicial and administrative complexes being located at different places in Patiala.

Appealing to the lawyers to vote for his wife and Congress candidate Preneet Kaur in Patiala Urban bypoll on August 21, the former chief minister said the Akalis had discriminated against Patiala out of vengeance because people here had always supported the Congress. Adding that the situation was no better across Punjab, except in Bathinda, he said the Akalis seemed to have given up as they lost control over everything.

Criticising the state government for its handling of the drug addiction menace, Singh highlighted the problems of unemployment and poor economy.

He said, "While the big fish and the main producers, suppliers and peddlers are roaming free, the addicts  are being put behind bars. Addicts need to treated and not tortured."

Singh also questioned the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) anarchist agenda and said, "The AAP managed to win a few seats in Punjab just because of anti-incumbency feelings against the Akalis in Punjab and the Congress at the centre, for different reasons."

Among those present on the occasion included Harvinder Rana, secretary Patiala Bar Association,
Balbir Singh Billing, Arvind Khanna, Opinder Sharma, BIS Chahal and Tript Bajwa.
