Demanding better pay scale, teachers recruited as education providers will hold 'pol khol rally' in Moga on February 17. State president of education provider union Harpreet Singh Neelowal said around 7,000 education providers will expose the 'false promises' of  the SAD-BJP government during the Moga bypoll.

The SAD-BJP government in 2009 had recruited education providers at a salary of Rs 2,500 to untrained teachers and Rs 3,500 to trained teachers.

Neelowal said in May 2011, former education department Sewa Sikh Sekhwan assured to hike their salaries to match those of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan teachers. "Orders in this regard were also issued on June 17, 2011 and the then minister assured to implement the revised salary structure from April 2012, but nothing has been done till now," he said.

"Currently, untrained and trained teachers are being paid Rs 6,500 and Rs 8,500, respectively, while SSA teachers get Rs 16,000," said Sukhchain Singh Ugrahan, state member of the union.
