The Patiala police have busted a gang with arrest of its four members who were allegedly involved in car and motorcycle robberies. Three cars, three motorcycles and an Activa scooter have been recovered from their possession.
In a press conference, SSP Hardial Singh Mann and SP Jaskiranjit Singh Teja, said that three accused are in early twenties while one is juvenile. They were indulging in snatching and stealing vehicles as they were drug addicts.
The gang members have been identified as Vishal Kumar, Jasmeet Singh, both residents of Heera Nagar, Rajinder Kumar of New century enclave and a juvenile.
During preliminary interrogation, it was found that they had stolen many motorcycles from different places of Patiala and prepared their forged registration certificates and bills. They also tampered with the engine numbers and the chasis numbers. With their arrest, the police have solved five cases, said SSP.
The gang had stolen a Zen car from Model town, Patiala, but when it got involved in an accident they sunk the car in the Bhakra canal, Nabha road. They had done the same with splendour Motorcycle and an Active Scooter.
In an another case, the police has arrested two persons who were in a similar vehicle lifting racket. " In mid-November, Rajinder Singh, a Manager of D P Goyal Automobiles, Bhadson Road, Patiala, reported to the police that an unknown person had approached their agency had taken a black coloured motorcycle for a test ride but haven't returned back and had stolen it." The police cracked the case by arresting Harpreet Singh and Gupreet Singh, while another accomplice of accused Harvinder Singh is at large.
They had also stolen a Bajaj motorcycle from Malerkotla Bus Stand an year ago. There are many cases registered against them in various police stations of Punjab.
Father, son held, 5 kg of opium seized
The Patiala police has also arrested a father-son duo with 5 kg of opium, which they were smuggling into Punjab.
" A police team of Ghagga police station, intercepted a without number red coloured TVS motor cycle and arrested Rohtash and his father Bhola Ram, both residents of Jind (Haryana) and recovered 5 kg of opium from their possession", said SSP Hardial Singh Mann.
During preliminary interrogation, it was found that they were in this business of smuggling for many years and had earlier bought the opium from Rajasthan at the rate of Rs 40,000 per kg and supplied it in the areas of Patiala to his customers at the rate of Rs 70,000 per kg.
