Power engineers have decided to intensify their stir against the Punjab government to oppose the extension given to chairman-cum-managing director of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited.

The PSEB Engineers Association held a meeting here on Friday and decided to intensify their agitation. The engineers are agitated over the move of the government to raise the retirement age of CMDs and directors from 62 to 65 years and for allowing entry of IAS officers in the management ."The government has violated the tripartite agreement and has amended the qualification criteria without reaching an understanding with the association," said Baldev Singh Sran, president of association.

Speakers flayed the PSPCL management for coal crisis. ThePSPCL management has track record of not acting sternly against the defaulting firms particularly private ones like Spanco which failed to implement IT project and private thermal plant at Talwandi Sabo, read a press release.

"It is most unfortunate that the state government is  still giving extensions to the incompetent management by violating the tripartite agreement signed with the engineers association in 2010.

The PSEB Engineers' Association demanded a high-level independent inquiry from the Punjab Government in the matter. Engineers resolved to follow an agitation programme chalked out by central executive of the PSEBEA which includes holding of protest meetings, mobile phone switch off for full working hours on May 23 and mass casual leaves on any day after 10 June, in addition to on-going "work to rule" stir, said the association in the press release.
