Shifting to top gear, Congress candidate from Patiala Urban constituency Preneet Kaur organised a road show, visiting several areas in the city on Friday, ahead of the bypoll scheduled for August 21.
Accompanied by senior party leaders including Lal Singh, OP Soni, Kaur's procession passed through areas of Ragho Majra, Karah Wala Chowk, Sabzi Mandi, Gurh Mandi, Pandyanwala Bazar, Qila Chowk, Sarafa Bazar, Khaddar Bazar, where she interacted with the residents and shopkeepers.
Poor civic conditions in the city came to the fore when Preneet waded through a street in Ragho Majra, which was flooded because of recent showers, to campaign.
Condemning the Akali government for failure to provide basic amenities like an effective drainage system in Patiala, she said that residents of many areas complained to her about poor civic conditions.
"The Akalis failed on all fronts. Be it government employees, teachers, traders, real estate dealers, businessmen or industrialists, not a single section of the society is happy with them."
Every day, the government has been using force to quell genuine protests from various sections -- power engineers, ETT teachers or transport corporation employees -- she said.
"A government should not be run with brute force," she said referring to the lathicharge on ETT teachers last week.
Bir Devinder, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Sunder Shyam Arora, Sangat Singh Gilzian, Sukhjit Randhawa and Harpartap Ajnala were also among those present.
