The Crime Investigating Agency (CIA) staff of Patiala police on Friday claimed to have busted a gang of robbers involved in a number of incidents in the Rajpura and Patiala areas in the recent past.

The six members of the gang were arrested from an abandoned building on Sirhind Road in Patiala while they were planning a robbery. As per police, apart from incidents of snatching and dacoity at Patiala railway station and bus stand, the gang had recently looted Atwal Petrol Pump on Rajpura Road.

Patiala CIA in-charge inspector Kuldeep Singh Sekhon said the kingpin, Ajay Kumar, had formed the gang recently with the help of some people from Jhajjar district of Haryana and Batala of Punjab to carry out robberies across Patiala district.

The police have recovered a countrymade pistol, some sharp-edged weapons, a car without registration number, a motorcycle and eight mobile phones from the gang.
