Suvidha camps coming to all villages: Rakhra

The state government would organise Suvidha Camps in all villages and towns to bring different government services to people at their doorstep.

Rural development and panchayat minister Surjit Singh Rakhra on Thursday announced the decision here. The camp gathers official of many departments at one place to give people solutions on the spot. At the camps, people can apply for social-security pension, driving licence, ration card, land registration, or caste certificate.

"The objective is to save people the botheration of scurrying between different offices," said Rakhra. Inaugurating Suvidha Camp in Ward 31 of Patiala in the presence of councillor and Youth Akali Dal state general secretary Harpal Juneja, he said the response had been tremendous. Thursday's camp will be model for similar events elsewhere in the state.

Councillor Juneja thanked the administration for supporting the initiative. Juneja, who was a prominent candidate for the post of mayor in the appointment on Tuesday (April 2), used the event to show his worth and influence to the party. District planning board chairman Deepinder Singh Dhillon; mayor Amaninder Singh Bajaj; senior Akali leader and former member of Rajya Sabha Amarjeet Kaur; deputy commissioner GK Singh; and senior superintendent of police Gurpreet Singh Gill were present.

The arrangement of refreshment and lunch was on the YAD leader. Of the 3,023 visitors, 107 were sanctioned pension, 723 renewed rations card, 140 received driving licence, and more than 600 were give legal advice in police matters.
