The Bihar government has sacked 25 police personnel caught accepting bribes.
This was the first time the state government took such sweeping action against policemen caught taking bribes.
Director general of police Abhayanand said, “The action has been taken to send out a clear message to officials indulging in corrupt practices."
Those given marching orders include 16 sub-inspectors and seven assistant sub-inspectors. The men had been caught accepting bribe by the personnel of the state vigilance bureau. Altogether, there are 50 police personnel in the vigilance net. These include eight in Patna district.
The dismissal order has, however, not gone down well with the police association.
"While the arrested policemen have been dismissed, no action has been taken against employees of the other departments who face similar charges," said an office-bearer of the association.
