The Patna police on Friday claimed to have busted a Maoist conspiracy to disrupt Independence Day celebrations in the Magadh division, comprising five districts of south Bihar.
The police said they had arrested seven hardcore Maoists, including an area commander, when he and his comrades were hatching their plan in a high school premises in Paliganj, 25 km southwest of the state capital.
The police recovered two bulletproof jackets and a huge quantity of Maoist literature from them. The insurgents were also discussing a proposal to meet senior Maoist leaders to seek more bulletproof jackets.
Senior superintendent of police Vineet Vinayak said a tip-off led a joint team of the Paliganj police and the Patna-based Anti-Extortion Cell to raid the school in rural Patna. “But, no weapon was recovered,” he said.
