The BJP has demanded that the Centre declare Bihar 'an economically backward state' for paving the way for special central assistance for ensuring all round growth.
In a memorandum submitted to Governor R L Bhatia on Monday, BJP's Vyavasayeek Manch urged Bhatia to take up the matter with the Centre.
In its memorandum, an immediate grant of Rs 50,000 crore for creating basic infrastructure in the state was sought.
The delegation that called on the governor was led by the president of the party's Vyavasayeek Manch Suresh Rungta.
Rungta demanded that the Centre announce tax holiday in Bihar for next ten years on the goods being produced in the state to help boost industrial growth.
He said the Centre should also give around Rs 1,000 crore for the development of food processing units, besides Rs 700 crore to give an impetus to the sugar industry.
The delegation also requested the central government to help the state develop information technology industry.
The Centre should also make arrangement for bank loans for the development of the small scale industries, he said.
