Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has made a belated entry into the world of social networking.

The 326 likes for his official Facebook page, created on September 2, appear insignificant compared to approximately 42 lakh likes for the official page of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.

Even Chattisgarh chief minister Dr Raman Singh’s FB page is liked by more than one lakh users. But the Bihar CM’s entry seems to be aimed at catching up with the politicians whose presence looms large on social networking sites.

Kumar posted his first comments on the Teachers Day on September 5, saying, "We are working on strengthening education infrastructure in the state to make it an engine of growth."

The post has attracted a slew of suggestions on how to improve the primary education system in the state.

"There should be quality education at primary level itself in all government schools and the salary must be attractive enough to woo quality teachers to be recruited through free and fair competitive exam," said Jainendra Kashyap.

Among his many posts on "Bihari pride" and "good governance”, the most significant one is on women's empowerment and girl education.

The page carries biography of Nitish Kumar and a picture of girls with bicycles given to girl students under the chief minister free bicycles schemes.

"Prior to this (scheme), it was rare to find a school girl riding a bicycle on the streets," he commented.
