Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal (U) MLA, Abhay Singh allegedly committed suicide on Friday after shooting his wife and six-month-old daughter at his father and Bihar's Food and Civil Supplies Minister Narendra Singh’s official residence.
The MLA’s 3-year-old daughter, Khushi, however, survived as she was sleeping with her grandmother in the next room.
The incident came to light when a domestic help of the minister heard the sound of gunshot in the room in which the MLA with his wife Soni Devi and three-month old daughter, Rashi, were sleeping.
Narendra Singh, who was sleeping in another room, was found lying unconscious and has been admitted to the ICCU of Patna Medical College and Hospital.
The rifle, which was used in the crime, was also recovered from the room.
Sources close to the family said that the MLA had a quarrel with his wife over some issue in the evening.
The three were cremated at Gubi Ghat here Friday in the presence of family members, relatives and hundreds of supporters and sympathisers.
Director General of Police Anand Shanker said, “We have collected samples from the site of occurrence and scientific investigation will be carried out from all angles.”
The incident shock the political circle. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Leader of Opposition Rabri Devi and other leaders cutting across party lines also reached the spot.
“It is a very shocking incident. We all are with Narendra Babu at the time of this crisis,” the Chief Minister said.
