Hailing JD(U)'s landslide victory in Bihar Assembly elections, coalition partner Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shahnawaz Hussain said on Wednesday that the people of Bihar had voted for development by re-electing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's ruling alliance.

"It is clear that people have voted for development and not for caste," Hussain, a former central cabinet minister said. "Nitish Kumar is set to return to power."

Hussain, the most prominent Muslim face of the BJP, said the Bihar verdict would prove to be a watershed in Indian politics.

BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "Bihar is rewriting the grammar of India's politics. It is a gate opener for new things to come."

"All those who believe in anti-Congress as matter of condition must look ahead at BJP before 2014," Prasad said.
