A teen-aged boy, Raj Kumar is arrested on Thursday from Jehanabad on the charge of sending threatening SMS message to former union minister Maneka Gandhi and her son Varun Gandhi.
Acting on a tip off, a team of officials of the Intelligence Bureau and the district police conducted a raid at Pathak Tola under Town police station and took Raj Kumar into custody. The accused owns a department store in Jehanabad town.
During interrogation, Raj Kumar admitted that he had sent the SMS and made telephone calls to Maneka Gandhi and Varun Gandhi. "Chhote Mian, also a local resident had asked me to send the SMS and make calls," he told the police.
He said that Chhote provided the telephone numbers to him. "Chhote wanted to talk to the former minister for some personal reasons," a police officer said quoting Raj Kumar.
When questioned how he came in contact with Chhote, Raj Kumar said that he (Chhote) used to visit his shop for purchasing household items. "I had not made the calls with any ulterior motive," he claimed.
Jehanabad Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) A K Srivastava said that Raj Kumar did not have any criminal antecedents. "He is being interrogated by senior police officials," he said. He, however, refused to divulge more information.
On earlier occasion also Jehanabad had hit the headlines, when a local youth sent a live cartridge to President APJ Abdul Kalam through a registered post. Later, the youth was released.
