A Class 12 student was allegedly gangraped by an autorickshaw driver and his friend on the banks of Falgu river in Bihar’s Gaya district on Tuesday.

Buniadganj Police arrested both the accused and sent the victim to a hospital for medical examination after a complaint was lodged.

Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of Wazirganj block Abhijeet Kumar Singh said prima facie the case appeared to be that of gangrape and involvement of some other persons could not be ruled out.

Police said the girl was on way to a coaching centre when the autorickshaw driver offered to drop her. Another man was already inside the vehicle when the girl boarded it.

“The autorickshaw driver took the girl to a secluded place on the banks of Falgu where he and his friend sprayed some toxicant on her face and took turns to rape her,” a police official said.

After the girl regained her senses, she reached home and narrated the incident to her family. Her family members and neighbours rushed to Buniadganj police station and lodged a complaint against the driver and his friend.

Wazirganj DSP also reached the police station and recorded the statement of the victim before sending her to a government hospital for medical examination.

The autorickshaw driver and his friend were arrested on the basis of the three-wheeler’s registration number that was provided by the girl.

Buniadganj station house officer said both the accused have been arrested and sent to the Gaya central jail within a few hours of the medical test. He said there could be more persons involved in the crime and efforts were on to arrest them.
