Senior Congress leader and former member of the Bihar Legislative Council Harishchandra Jha died in Patna on Sunday after a brief illness.
He was 87 and is survived by three sons and four daughters.
Jha was elected to the upper house of the Bihar Legislature from the Darbhanga seat in 1976. He was also the Darbhanga district unit president of Congress from 1980 to 1992.
He was also associated with different educational institutions in the state.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and other leaders mourned the death of Jha.
He will be cremated on the banks of Ganga in Bihar's Begusarai district on Monday, his youngest son Baidyanath Jha Baiju said.
