The constable posing as STF jawan had forced Upadhyay to switch his cell phone off. Later, a kidnapping case was registered with the concerned police station on the basis of the statement of Lalli Devi, wife of Upadhyay.

Upadhyay was confined to a room belonging to Amit Pratap alias Sona (Yarpur), one of the arrested. The accused had then used his cell phone to demand a ransom of ` 5 lakh from his daughter.

They also threatened her with dire consequences, if she failed to pay the ransom amount. After negotiations, accused finally agreed to accept 70,000 for Upadhyay’s safe release. Police swung into action and first picked up a suspect Shyam Rai (Chapra) on the basis of his cell phone location.

Rai then disclosed the name of constable Deepak. Finally, Upadhyay was released by Amit and Ranjit Sao ( Saristabad) fearing police action. City SP (west) Rajiv Mishra confirming the arrest of constable Deepak Kumar, a resident of Aurangabad and currently posted at Sachivalaya police station area, said he was nabbed by Beur police station from Yarpur locality.

During interrogation he confessed his involvement with four persons. Except Subhash Paswan, all the accused were arrested and forwarded to judicial custody. Mishra said, the arrested constable has been put under suspension and would face departmental proceedings. Raids were on to nab the absconder.
