Limca Book of Records

Two citations in the Limca Book of Records (LBR) in a year! That too post-retirement! Don't be surprised, its true. And, it has been achieved by a 62-year-old retired assistant general manager of SBI, Naresh Chandra Mathur, who now lives in Patna.

Mathur received the first citation for reading editorials carefully and collecting the choicest ones. He began his endeavour in 1975 and has collected more than 1,000 selected editorials published since then.

Most of them are from Hindustan Times, preserved in 10 bound volumes. The 2013 Limca Book that has just hit the market mentions his feat in the communications category of national records as the largest collection of editorials.

He made another record with his unique book of quotes - Punchline. Not only does it contain 1,112 sayings of famous men and women, but also has interesting one-liners on cancer awareness at the bottom of each page.

The catchy slogans exhort people to say no to tobacco. The book is mentioned in the medical sciences category of the record book.

I have been associated with the Cancer Awareness Society for long. The idea came to me when I was writing the book. I thought why not put cancer and anti-tobacco related quotes on each page as social service.

Thankfully, Pustak Mahal published it. I knew that the book was going to be special after the Dalai Lama appreciated it. As far as reading and collecting editorials go, it started as a hobby and became a habit, said Mathur.

Proving that creativity is not confined to any age group, this man, a bundle of energy, has now delved into the world of logo designing. And yes, he has not stopped writing. His next book is going to be on ancient management systems in the present context.
