"The possibility of having our independent cadre of IAS (Indian Administrative Service) and IPS (Indian Police Service) officers is being explored in consultation with the government of India," Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said in a written reply tabled in the assembly Monday.
Goa is presently a part of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories), a joint cadre where bureaucrats are shuffled between states and union territories covered in the group.
Goa's sole Rajya Sabha member Shantaram Naik had earlier accused IAS and IPS officers posted in the state of being inefficient and uncooperative and said that the state government was lobbying with the union government for a cadre of its own.
"It is very difficult to get rid of bad, uncooperative officers now because we have to keep pleading with the home ministry, which controls transfer of officers from the AGMUT cadre. If Goa has its own cadre we can easily suspend any civil servant from service if he is causing trouble," Naik had said in May.
Claiming that efficiency was also an issue with civil servants from the AGMUT cadre, Naik had said that given the short postings AGMUT civil servants had in Goa, they found it difficult to understand the demography of the state.
