Several girls of Baldeva Inter School have sought the help of principal director of defence estates (PDDE) central command, Lucknow to save them from eve teasing and indecent behaviour by rowdy elements hanging around their institution situated in the heart of the town.
These girls, numbering over 50, have complained to the PDDE, a senior officer of ministry of defence, that the main gate of the school and its adjoining area were under illegal occupation by vendors and make-shift stalls thus blocking the main passage to enter the institution.
They complained, that these stalls were also the places where rowdy elements gathered during school hours and passed vulgar comments on girl students. The misery deepened, since the stretch along the school boundary wall was barricaded by Danapur cantonment board (DCB) and an unauthorised cycle stand has come up. This is where the anti-socials gather to tease and harass them.
The eve-teasers frequent the school, which is just 200 metres away from the Danapur police station. "My daughter was admitted to the school and she came home crying last month, alleging that eve-teasers were harassing her," said a parent. gI had noticed that many of our students have become irregular in class in the past few months. On inquiry, I learnt, that they did so to avoid harassment near the school gate,h said a class teacher.
Sudha Sinha principal of school who also wrote to the cantonment executive officer of the DCB, said that the school had objected to the development of cycle stand but the authorities concerned did not pay any heed to it. She also urged the local SHO to deploy policemen or patrol the area during school hours but in vain.
Senior SP Amrit Raj said policemen will be deployed in plain clothes near the school and patrolling will be conducted in the area.
