The Kaimur sub-zonal command of CPI-Maoists suffered a massive blow, when its commander Sitaram Chauhan alias Gabbar was cornered and arrested in the Goraila Pahari forest area under Chutia police station on Wednesday night.
Police recovered a .303 bore looted police rifle and 20 live rounds from Gabbar during a special operation led by superintendent of police (SP), Manu Maharaj.
The arrested Maoist was wanted in at least 53 Naxal cases of violence in Rohtas, Nauhatta, Dehri, Chutia, Indrapuri, Amjhor and Adhaura police station areas of Rohtas and Kaimur districts in Bihar and adjacent Uttar Pradesh as well as Jharkhand. He had been evading arrest for the last 12 years, the SP said.
A resident of Chutia, Gabbar had joined the Maoist organisation in the late nineties at a very early age and had become a dare devil hardcore member.
He had taken command of Kaimur anchal sub zone after the killing of zonal commander Birendra Yadav alias Rana and other big Maoist leaders in recent times and was reorganising the outfit with the help of his contacts in Rohtas, Kaimur and adjacent states, the SP added.
