The murdered man, was identified as Priyanand Singh, was picked up from his house at the village by an armed group of extremists, around midnight Thursday.

The victim was taken to nearby Nahar Chowk where he was killed, using stone and sharp edged weapon. The ultras set on fire a tractor trolley and a trekker, parked in front of house of the victim.

The Maoists left behind a poster stating therein the victim was punished for being “a police informer”.

Jamui superintendent of Police (SP) Deepak Barnwal confirmed the incident. He, however, categorically stated the victim, at no point of time, had worked as a police informer.
