An engineering student in Bengaluru and a property dealer allegedly raped a minor Dalit girl repeatedly for the last three months, and made a video to blackmail her father into transferring his land.
The 16-year-old girl was allegedly shot in her legs when she resisted a couple of months ago, and raped again at gunpoint.
The accused, Taufique, 22, was arrested on Monday after the victim’s father lodged a police complaint on Sunday at the Shikarpur police station in West Champaran district, 246 km north-west of Patna.
Taufique is also an accused in a murder case in Bettiah last year, the police said.
Bettiah additional superintendent of police (ASP) Rajesh Kumar said video clips of the girl have been recovered from the cellphone of the accused. A double-barrel gun, a rifle and some live cartridges have also been recovered from the house of Munna Mia, one of Taufique’s associates, he added.
Police said the accused had entered into a land deal with the victim’s father for which he had paid some advance money. A resident of Nayabazar locality in Narkatiganj, Taufique used to live just 200 meters away from the victim’s house. He would often visit the victim’s house to complete the land deal. Finding the girl alone in the house one day, he raped her and made a video clip. Taufique then reportedly used the video clip to initially blackmail the girl into submission and keep quiet, as he continued to rape her.
Fearing for her life and social stigma, the victim had kept quiet all these days, the police said. However, her father registered a police complaint as soon as Taufique tried to blackmail him into posting his daughter’s video on social media if he did not transfer the land.
“The girl was scared and bore injury mark on her right leg, which she claims to be bullet injury. She claims that Taufique fired at her when she once tried to resist her rape,” deputy SP of Narkatiaganj, Aman Kumar, said.
The girl has been sent for medical examination.
