Naxalites on Tuesday had a scuffle with other inmates of the Central Beur Jail here after they forced the prisoners to join their hunger strike over suicide of one of the comrades in the jail hospital.
There was a scuffle between the naxalites and some other inmates whom they were pressuring to join in a hunger strike, IG (Prisons) Sandeep Paundrik told PTI.
He denied reports that the naxalites had clashed with the prison guards and had taken control of the high-security jail.
"There was a scuffle between the naxalites and some other inmates over going on a protest hunger strike and that is all. The agitators were sloganeering against the government and the jail authorities," Paundrik said.
Patna District Magistrate B Rajender said jail officials were trying to persuade the naxalites, some of who are on a hunger strike for the last two days, to end the stir.
"The jail authorities are negotiating with the agitators and everything is perfectly under control," he said.
A naxalite Nagina Manjhi had committed suicide by hanging at the jail hospital on December 14. Manjhi (40) was a resident of naxalite-affected Gaya district.
The naxalite, who was arrested six months ago from Phulwarisharif locality of the state capital, was reportedly suffering from depression.
Another inmate of the jail Sunil Singh had committed suicide on November 22 this year.
Rajender said statutory inquiries by judicial magistrates into the two incidents of suicide were already on.
