An Internet romance with a Filipino woman has landed a Bihari man in jail.
Gyan Prakash (27), a petrol pump and gas agency owner from Mainatand locality of Bettiah in West Champaran district of north Bihar was arrested on Friday on the basis of the woman’s complaint.
The police moved in on Prakash after the woman wrote an email to Bihar DGP Abhayanand, accusing him of cheating and exploiting her sexually when she visited the state. Interestingly, the woman wanted the Bihar police to persuade Prakash to marry her. But Prakash was unwilling.
This situation placed officials here in a quandary. The opinion in the police circles was that this matter should go to a court.
In her complaint, the woman said she came to Patna on December 29 to be with Prakash and returned on January 2 after a trip, along with him, to Bodh Gaya. The DGP told a section of the media he had referred the complaint to inspector general of police (weaker section) Arvind Pandey who, in turn, referred it to West Champaran SP M Sunilkumar Nayak.
Nayak said a case had been lodged against Prakash at the Bodh Gaya police station as the alleged wrongdoing took place in the pilgrimage town.
