Giving a new twist to Rahul Raj's alleged police encounter in Mumbai, Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam said here on Saturday the Maharashtra Government apprehended that it was not an encounter.

“Prima Facie it looks like an encounter. But there are some apprehensions. Independent inquiry is going on at three levels, the Chief Secretary, the Mumbai Crime Branch and the Best bus service. Things will be clear once the report comes up,” he said.

Talking to HT after meeting Rahul Raj’s family in the state capital, he said the general impression was that Biharis visited Mumbai in search of bread and butter and received bullets. “I have assured Rahul’s father to help in getting a job for any member of his family. I also want to convey a message that every Bihari who migrates to Mumbai for a job can contact me for help,” he said.

About the Bihari bashing by the MNS in Mumbai, he said it was not a regular phenomenon.
