Two advocates of Patna high court tasted massive traffic jam on their way to Patna City to inspect facilities at Guru Gobind Singh Hospital.

The hospital has been attached by the state health administration to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna till the latters complex to accommodate patients comes up next year.

Shashi Bhushan Kumar, one of the advocates said, “It was a horrible journey from Patna to Patna City. The entire system, whether the idea is workable depends on traffic. We wasted an hour on Ashok Rajpath due to massive traffic jam”.

He said, the team had conveyed Patna high court’s plan to construct a boundary wall for the hospital spread on 68-acre at an estimated costof Rs. 1.8 7 crore. “At first glance, it looks like a village compared to a hospital. Cows and buffalos graze in the open and on hospital campus, raising serious issues of hygiene,” Kumar added.

He said, the high court had ordered the chairman of the Bihar State Electricity Board to ensure regular power supply to the hospital but that was still not happening. “The crisis of power supply remains despite the court order,” he added.

The other advocate , Vinay Kumar Pandey, said that the work to spruce up and secure the campus would start within a month and it would be completed within three months. “We have to fill a detailed report on the situation to the court by October 31. We hope that the outpatient department to be attached to AIIMS Patna would soon be operational with the appointment of doctors. Several equipment would have to be rapired or replaced though. The ultrasound machine in the hospital is out of order since July”, he stated.

Earlier, the court had directed the principal secretary, road construction department and SSP, Patna to take appropriate action for smooth flow of traffic on the road leading to the hospital.

Hospital superintendent, Awadhesh Kumar Kashyap, deputy superintendent Nawal Kishore Sharma and Dr Shashi Shekhar Singh were present during the inspection.
