Patna turns into a fortress for Modi's visit

Gujarat chief minister, Narendra Modi's visit the second time around has been cushioned against all surprise attacks on him or his cavalcade, as the BJP prepares for his visit to six districts for him to meet the kin of the six deceased in as many districts.

Modi is to start off on his condolence tour from Gaurichak in Patna on Satuday at 6:30am and make chopper stops in districts of Kaimur, Gopalganj, Supaul, Begusarai and Nalanda.

Ensconced within a five layered security with 200 commandos of the Bihar Military force at each of the villages, besides 100 men of the Gujarat Police, the cavalcade will be led by DIG's with the range commissioners personally escorting Modi and the district magistrates and SP's bringing up the rear.

Over 6000 men were detailed by the Bihar Police headquarters late night yesterday to man every nook and corner of about 400 feet, that he would travel from the helipads, especially created for him at the villages and move to the homes of the bomb blast victims.

Officials at the police headquarters said, "A further requisition for 1100 additional men in some districts-particularly Goplganj and Supaul-by the SP's has been acceded to and men of the STF have been moved to fill in for any security gap".

Modi is expoected to handover Rs 5 lakh cheques additionally from the BJP kitty to add to a similar amount paid out by the state government-at each of these visits.

Bomb disposal squadsare already in place at each location with sniffer and tracker dog squads, minesweepers, electronic surveillance and jammer units even as sanitising operations had been completed by Friday afternoon.

Prinicipal secretary, Cabinet coordination, Brajesh Mehrortra said, "He has been extended all protocol laid down for Z+ protectee as per NSG procedure and as the chief minister of a state. The arrangements are fail safe".

DGP, Bihar, Abhayanand and ADG, special branch, Rajesh Chandra had denied any negligience saying, "The Bihar Police mounted adequate protection, which is proved by the fact, that the Gujarat chief minister was sanitised from any attack and no incident occured on his journey enroute to the rally site or in his prximate area during his speech".

Chandra added, that the preparations for the rally were reviewed together with Gujarat Police representatives and they had at no point expressed reservations. "In fact, they had expressed complete satisfaction", Chandra added.

The Bihar police has pleaded, that there was no intel specific to the attack and pinpointing the locales. Yet, the very fact, that it was the Bihar Police is the first to arrest a live suspect in the country, proves, that it was capable enough to handle any responsibility of this nature".

Meanwhile, Bihar Police mounted vigil at the state guest house, where Modi will stay overnight. It moved in deep search mine sweepers, covering every inch with gun emplacements on buildings all around.

Modi, however, will have his lunch in the chopper itself as he takes to the villages and his dinner in the plane enroute to Ahmedabad.

The BJP leadership has prepared for his breakfast on Saturday morning and refreshments at various points.
