Police in Bihar arrested six people on Friday for beating a woman and tying her to a tree after they accused her of witchcraft.
The middle-aged woman's hands were tied while villagers took turns to hit her with sticks and brooms, television pictures showed. An elderly man repeatedly slapped her and then painted her, shaved her head and paraded her through the village.
The incident occurred on Thursday in a village in Bihar.
Hundreds of women have been killed in the past few years on suspicion of being witches or witch doctors in India.
