BJP national president Rajnath Singh on Monday described the Congress as the ‘most communal party’ and urged other parties to rise above a pre-poll epidemic called ‘secularitis’.

“Every time we near elections, by a strange coincidence, this disease takes epidemic proportions,” the BJP chief said, adding, “in fact, this is a bogey raised by the Congress, the most communal party in the country”.

“The Congress raises the issue of secularism to polarise the votes of minorities in its favour, trapping its rivals in the process,” he said, cautioning the opposition to beware of the party’s “divide and rule” policy.

Addressing newsmen, Singh said he took strong exception to Gujarat being singled out for police encounter investigations, when such encounters had been taking place in other states too.

“What I’d like to know is whether such inquiries been conducted in other states as well. If the answer is yes, then what were the outcomes,” he asked.
