Samajwadi Party workers from Madhepura want actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to contest as a party candidate against JD (U) leader and former MP of Madhepura Sharad Yadav. The actress’ name has been recommended to party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav by the SP state parliamentary board.
Tulsi Singh, chairman of the state parliamentary board, said party workers, at a meeting of the board, had requested him to recommend Aishwarya’s name. “We have already recommended her name to the chairman of the central parliamentary board,” Singh said.
With Aishwarya in the fray, the political battle in Madhepura may turn interesting. While Sharad Yadav is all set to contest the Lok Sabha polls from here, RJD chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav may also try his luck from the constituency.
The Bachchan family’s association with the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party is widely known. Bachchan’s wife Jaya Bachchan is a party MP in the Rajya Sabha. The Samajwadi Party leader had laid the foundation for an educational institution for girls named after Aishwarya Rai at Daulatpur village, about 40 km from Lucknow, last year.
The Mulayam Singh government had also conferred Uttar Pradesh’s highest cultural honour — Yash Bharti — on Abhishek Bachchan for his contribution to the field of art and culture.
