Kankarbagh police reportedly rescued a woman from her in-laws at Janta Path on Tuesday. Later, the woman, Hemlata Devi lodged a dowry case against her in-laws with Kankarbagh police station.

Police said Hemlata’s father Ram Singh, a resident of Punpun, informed the police that his daughter was held in captivity for the last three months by her in-laws’ for not being given dowry. Later, a police team from Kankarbagh rushed to her in-laws’ house and rescued Hemlata, said a police officer.

Kankarbagh station house officer (SHO) Arun Kumar Gupta said police had arrested Hemlata’s mother-in-law Phulo Devi and her daughter Reena. Her husband Laxman Kumar, an artist, managed to escape before the arrival of police. She married Laxman about eight months ago, said the police officer.
