The mystery over the kidnapping and subsequent murder of class 5 student Amarjeet Kumar on December 20 was solved on Friday with the arrest of two teenaged school students, the police here said.
The arrested boys, *Pankaj Kumar, 14, and his friend, *Devesh Mishra, 15, lured Amarjeet with the help of two college students in order to demand a ransom from his wealthy family, the police said.
But their plot went wrong and they killed Amarjeet in a guesthouse and then demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh from the victim's father. The father, however, turned to the police and the case was cracked.
The police have launched a hunt for the college students, Luv Kumar Choubey and Vikas Kumar, partners in the crime.
Senior SP Bacchu Singh Meena told mediapersons that Pankaj rang up Amarjeet, saying he would introduce him to someone who was selling his Ipod for a paltry amount. So, the unsuspecting boy cycled to Pankaj's house, where he was introduced to the others. The five then booked a room under a fictitious name in a guesthouse.
"However, realising that keeping Amarjeet under wraps could pose a problem, the four strangled the boy to death and stuffed his body into a gunny bag, which they later dumped into a ditch," Meena said.
They then sprinkled the gunny bag with kerosene and set it afire in a bid to obliterate evidence of the murder.
"The accused were apprehended largely on account of Pankaj's mobile phone. We traced his movements through the mobile phone he was carrying," Meena said.
