Adieu: celebrity deaths in 2012
It was a sad year for India's creative industry in terms of the losses it had to bear. King of romance director Yash Chopra, first Indian superstar Rajesh Khanna, sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar and one of India's greatest satirist Jaspal Bhatti are some greats we lost in 2012.
Yash Chopra's first commercial as well as critical success was Waqt (1965), a multi-starrer family drama. He died on October 21 after fighting dengue for several days.
His most notable roles are Inder Sen in Shaukeen, Bipinlal Pandey in Namak Haraam, Rahim Chacha in Sholay and Ram Shastri in Aaina (1977).
Indian classical musician Ravi Shankar passed away on December 11, 2012 after undergoing a heart surgery. He was arguably the best contemporary Indian musician. Pandit Ravi Shankar also imntroduced Indian music to the world.
Dara Singh played the role of Hanuman in legendary TV serial Ramayan. He died on July 12, just days after suffering from a severe cardiac arrest.

Jaspal Bhatti, the original king of satire and spoof is no more with us.
Noted cinematographer Ashok Mehta died on August 15 fighting lung cancer.
Actor-Director Dinesh Thakur passed away on September 20 after prolonged illness.
