Salvadoran indigenous Pipils hold rolled up Petates, mats used for sleeping, during a traditional ceremony known as the "the four cardinal points" in Nahuizalco about 74 kilometres (46 miles) west of San Salvador. Pipils commemorated the International Day of Indigenous Peoples, which was held on August 9, which called for recognition of its territory, respect for their language as well as their customs and respect for Mother Earth.
