Decorated with colourful trinkets, transporting goods of all sizes and often having men sitting precariously atop them, legs dangling out of the vehicle, trucking in India is often a misunderstood. Four international photographers covered 27 Indian states in the heavy vehicles to understand them and their drivers, compiled as a coffee table book by Divya Jain. Seen here is the interiors of a truck with its driver. Click to see more images from the book. Text by Shweta Mehta

Divya Jain, whose maiden coffee table book is dedicated to trucks and their drivers, says, "People who drive trucks have a lot of negative publicity around them and they don’t get their due. I wanted to bring out their positive aspects." Incidentally, Jain hails from a family of truckers — they own a logistics company. Seen here is a truck being ferried to land on a boat.

Over the four years, Jain commissioned four international photographers — Sephi Bergerson, Zackary Canepari, Thomas Pickard and Claude Barutel — to travel across 27 states in trucks, bonding with their drivers and capturing their journeys. Why foreigners? Because they bring a fresh perspective, says Jain. Snapshot: a truck covered in snow
