More than seven million Venezuelans participated in an unofficial referendum organized by the opposition Sunday and 98 percent voted to delegitimize the rule of President Nicolas Maduro, according to academics monitoring the vote.

Venezuelan authorities have refused to greenlight the vote that has been presented as an act of civil disobedience and supporters of Maduro are boycotting it.
