12-year-old girl killed as rickshaw crashes onto concrete bench in Pune

The auto rickshaw she was travelling in, toppled and crashed on a concrete bench near Vetal Baba Chowk in Kondhwa Khurd.

Twelve-year-old Sania Toufiq Attar was killed on Tuesday morning, as the auto rickshaw she was travelling in, toppled and crashed on a concrete bench near Vetal Baba Chowk in Kondhwa Khurd. The accident was reported to the Kondhwa police station by former member of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Bharat Chaudhary, who was in the vicinity when the accident occurred.

Along with the driver, Sher Khan Pathan (40), six other people, including four minors, were injured, police said. Among the four injured, three were identified as the driver’s children while one was identified as Sania’s sibling. The deceased child’s mother, who is the driver’s sister-in-law, was also one of the injured.

The injured were identified as Tarannum Pathan (32), wife of the auto rickshaw driver, Swalia Pathan (14), Alfiya (12), and Tauseem Pathan (10), all children of the driver. Other injured were identified as Tauseen Toufiq Attar (30) mother of the deceased child and Sohail (5), sibling of the deceased child.

While the children and two women were reported as stable, the driver suffered a head injury and a fracture and was reported to be in critical condition, according to constable KK Kamble.

Pathan was booked for causing the death of the 12-year-old girl due negligent driving, according to constable Kamble. The family was travelling to Camp area to get Swalia and Alfiya admitted to Camp Education Society’s Kanya School.

Three members of the Attar family are residents of  Ichalkaranji in Kolhapur. Everyone was rushed to the Sassoon Hospital near Pune station.
