A case was filed against the contractor of the crane company which had employed Ram Jadhav, the 29-year-old worker who fell from the structure built by Dagdusheth Halwai Trust during the recently concluded Ganesh festival. The case was registered at the Vishrambaug police station on Tuesday against contractor Arun Namdev Tharkute after Jadhav sustained severe head and leg injuries while dismantling the structure.
He was booked in a case registered under section 338 of the Indian Penal Code for endangering the life of a worker who was working on the structure. There was no safety measures taken when the accident happened.
Dagdusheth Halwai Trust had issued a statement saying that the worker is fine. A representative of the trust had also said that the trust, along with the crane company - ATN Cranes - will be footing the medical bills of Jadhav.
Neurosurgeon Dr Anant Katkar, who is treating Jadhav at the Ruby Hall Clinic, had said that he was kept under observation for two-three days after which he will undergo treatment for the head injury and fracture in his right limb. “He is coming out of it. He is stable now. It is a procedural case. In fact, the hospital had only informed the police,” Dr Katkar said while speaking to Hindustan Times.
“It is a case so it warrants an arrest. We have booked the contractor. However, it is a bailable offence,” said police sub inspector MD Patil of Vishrambaug police station. PSI Santosh Patil is the investigating officer in the case.
On September 2, Jadhav had fallen from the top of the structure erected for the Ganesh pandal after his leg got stuck in a rope as the crane moved the dome on top of the place where Dagdusheth Halwai Trust had organised a play performance during the Ganpati festival. A video of the incident was circulated by people on social media platforms like WhatsApp.
