Neil Muley registers hat-trick of wins at district ranking table tennis in Pune

Neil won cadet boys’ title beating top seed Daksha Jadhav in the final on Friday.

 Young paddler Neil Muley emerged winner for the third time in the district ranking season this year. In the ongoing 3rd District Ranking Table Tennis Tournament, organised by PYC Hindu Gymkhana at their premises, Neil won cadet boys’ title beating top seed Daksha Jadhav in the final on Friday. 

Earlier in the semifinal, Neil defeated Vedang Joshi 11-9, 12-10, 8-11, 11-3, while Daksha prevailed over Samyak Motling 11-9, 11-1, 11-6 to enter final. In the summit clash, Daksha gave a good fight in the first game, but in the end Neil raced to 1-0 lead with 12-10 win. With a boosted confidence, he won next two games 11-9, 11-9 to emerge as the winner. This is his 13th title since last year in the district circle. He is a fifth standard student of Abhinav Vidhyalaya English Medium Primary School, and trains at PYC Hindu Gymkhana with his father and coach Upendra Muley. 

The cadet girls’ segment brought no surprises, as top seed Pritha Vartikar justified her billing with a straight 11-6, 11-8, 11-6 win over second seed Radhika Sapkal. This is her second cadet title of the season. 

Meanwhile, in the sub-junior boys’ category, seeded players sailed safely to the next round, except Kumar Kulkarni. The 12th seed went down to unseeded Asim Kelkar 6-11, 11-7, 11-13, 11-9, 12-14 in a hard-fought encounter.
