Over 20,000 students yet to confirm their FYJC seats even after deadline in Pune
Owing to the large number of students who haven’t taken admission yet, the committee is still contemplating on an extension of deadline or introduction of another special round, especially for the students who were allotted colleges of their first preference.
With the first year junior college (FYJC) admissions under the centralised admission procedure (CAP) having reached it’s deadline, a total of 23,643 out of the 48,315 candidates, who were allotted admissions in the first round, have still not confirmed their seats.
Owing to the large number of students who haven’t taken admission yet, the committee is still contemplating on an extension of deadline or introduction of another special round, especially for the students who were allotted colleges of their first preference. Only 24672 students have been admitted as per the official reports.
The initial deadline for the closing of first round admissions was on Thursday, July 13. A total of 23,872 students of the 48,315 candidates were admitted in the first round, causing the governing body to push the deadline ahead to till 12 noon, July 14. Aspirants were given the chance to confirm their seats and register to the respective colleges by 12 pm on Friday.
On a priority basis, colleges had been informed to complete the FYJC admission procedure by noon today, and inform the CAP committee about the final list of vacant seats.
Out of the total number of allocations, from first preference to the 10th preference, 19,991 students had got their first preference. For them, it is mandatory to register to the respective colleges and confirm their seats according to their preference. Failing to do this would result in a rejection from the FYJC admission process.This effectively means that the admissions of these students from the first preference list, who had failed to confirm their seats by 12 noon, could be jeopardised.
Dinkar Temkar, deputy director of education, had earlier stated that no further change in dates would take place throughout the remaining procedure of admission. He had also confirmed that the list of vacant seats for round two would also be declared by Friday evening. “There could be a delay and it is likely to be late. But, one should not expect any further changes in terms of the dates,” he had stated.
Dinkar Temkar also added that the vacant seats will be displayed tomorrow and that the students left out in the first round would get their admission in the second round for sure.
However, due to the large number of students who are yet to complete their admissions, the committee will have to come up with an improvised plan of action. .
