Passengers of Mahalaxmi express looted by dacoits

Sources informed that this seemed to be a planned loot by the dacoits as the signal was disabled at the Rajewadi station. Later, the dacoits entered the train in groups and looted valuables from the passengers.

According to railway officials, the train was travelling from Mumbai to Kolhapur and left the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus at 8 pm on Wednesday and was looted by dacoits post 1.30 am near Jejuri.

Travelling by Mahalami express has turned out to be a nightmare for passengers after dacoits looted the passengers during the intervening night between Wednesday and Thursday. The dacoits, according to officials, snatched valuables from the passengers.

The incident occurred near the Jejuri-Rajewadi station around 1.30 am on Thursday. According to railway officials, the train was travelling from Mumbai to Kolhapur and left the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus at 8 pm on Wednesday and was looted by dacoits post 1.30 am near Jejuri. 

Sources informed that this seemed to be a planned loot by the dacoits as the signal was disabled at the Rajewadi station. Later, the dacoits entered the train in groups and looted valuables from the passengers. The police officials said the exact number of robbers that entered the train cannot be ascertained.

The train left the station after 15 minutes when thieves fled the spot. Sources have claimed that during this time, mobile phones, cash, gold jewellery among other things were snatched by the dacoits. Police complaints were registered by passengers at Kolhapur railway station, while many lodged complaints at Satara and Miraj railway stations as well. According to officials, further investigations are presently going on.
